My First Muse
When we were kids, my mother often took my brothers and me to the Jardines del Real and Jardines de Monforte in Valencia, Spain, where we lived. The parks were close to our home in the old part of town. Their gardens were filled with lush flora, fountains and classical sculpture.
While my brothers and I played, Mum sketched.
My Mother was my First Muse
My mum’s creativity and unique style were my early inspiration. She is beautiful and very elegant. She has incredible design instincts. And she has a great appreciation for quality and perfection.
As well as sketching, Mum draws beautifully. She knows how to tailor and sew. And every single piece she owns has a story—almost nothing was bought from a store. She designed it and made it.
Mixing Design and Local Craftsmanship
I remember Mum commissioned a shoe repairer to make grommeted belts and sandals to her specifications. She worked with a local espadrille maker, designing shoes made with macramé rope she knotted herself.
The Mercedes Castillo Manacor bag—part of our Spring 2017 Collection—is based on a bag my mum designed decades ago. She had it crafted by gypsy artisans.
Like my mother, women today are very engaged with their own creativity.
Confidence to be Her Own Muse
Like my mother, women today are very engaged with their own creativity. They are interested in being individual.
Our brand is for the woman—like my mum—with confidence to be her own muse.
